Frequently asked questions

You have questions? I might have answers for you.

How much do sessions cost?

Prices for psychological services provided by Sills Psychology directly follow the guidelines recommended by the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta (PAA), which are as follows:

  • $235 per hour for individual therapy
  • $350 per 90-minutes for couples therapy

I also offer sliding scale/compassion-based pricing on a case-by-case basis for clients who require support for accessing services. Please contact me if you are looking for more information about these rates.

Do you direct bill and how does payment work?

I am not able to direct bill Insurance companies at this time; however, my services are covered by all major insurance companies. I ask that clients put a card on file, which can be used to charge for sessions. Clients are also able to pay via e-transfer to my email, Stephen@sillspsychology.com, if that is preferred. Regardless of how you pay, a receipt will be sent to your email immediately upon payment being received, which you may submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

How often should we meet?

I meet with most of my clients on a bi-weekly basis (once every two weeks); however, this depends on each client. I have clients that I meet with weekly, and I have clients that I meet with monthly or as-needed. When we discuss your goals for therapy and begin our work together, I will make recommendations about what frequency is likely to be appropriate. I often will then check-in with you about how the frequency is feeling and working for you, and will adjust to best meet your needs and help ensure that you are getting the support you need and want.

Do you charge for late cancellations?

Yes. I ask that clients provide me with at least 24-hours notice for any cancellations or changes to appointments. Clients who provide less that 24 hours’ notice or miss their appointment will be charged for the appointment at the full hourly rate. With that being said, life happens sometimes and I am compassionate towards that. If you cannot make your appointment for any reason, please reach out and let me know.

What if we aren’t a good fit?

It’s not you, it’s me

Sometimes we may get into working together and it just might not feel right. Not all therapists and clients are a match and that’s okay. This may be a result of your concerns being outside my scope of practice, you requiring more specialized support, a conflict of interest occurring, or simply our personalities not matching quite right. If this happens, I am happy to provide you with referral options to help connect you with the right therapist for you and help the bridge the gap so that you have access to ongoing support.
